First, let me say that I don’t think there’s a way to 100% childproof a wood stove. That said, here’s how we’ve managed to make ours as safe as possible.

After Foxpocolypse 2018, when a fox with mange killed five of our chickens, we decided we’d need to add some new chickens to the flock come spring …
I’m a tea addict in winter, primarily because I apparently lack the ability to create my own body heat, reptile-style.
There is probably no piece of furniture I dislike more than coffee tables. Now I’m in the market for TWO coffee tables – one for our TV room, one for our living room, and I am STRUGGLING. Do you ever feel like you’ve overshopped for an item? Like you’ve compared so many different options they’ve all started to blend and you’re not sure what you want at all any more? That’s the rabbit hole I’ve been dealing with as my desire for something pretty conflicts with my need for something practical, and nothing quite seems to physically fit in my rooms with their challenging measurements. Here are a few of my issues, my inspiration, and some things I actually like!
At this point, I’ve done about 25 different kitchen island designs in preparation for our kitchen renovation. Our current island is a great size, so at least that’s a known quantity, but otherwise style, finishes and functionality are all in play! But this week, the kids are off of school, insisting on wearing Santa hats indoors, and generally inspiring me to kick up my holiday cheer levels, so I’m in search of decorating inspiration!
I’ve noticed so many classic, tactile gift possibilities for the home available this year. As a big fan of giving useful items for Christmas (food is probably my #1 favorite gift to give!), it’s so nice to find things anyone would use, but that are a twist on your average find. Here’s a few of my favorites …
The recent United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report was incredibly depressing in its conclusions about the speed and impact of global warming, but left me with some clear ideas of what I can do in my own life to reduce emissions. Paramount among those is reducing how much meat my family eats.
Greydon House in Nantucket has hands-down amazing design, incorporating antiques, vintage pieces and nautical nods that come together in a modern way.
As I continue to design our kitchen in preparation for a remodel next spring, I’m deciding on cabinets I’d like. I’m leaning heavily toward the British-style cabinets that look like individual pieces of furniture with feet.
